As with all cities in California, the City of El Segundo is required to comply with certain Federal and State environmental program mandates. Compliance with the solid waste mandates was the main reason for the switch to automated trash collection, while the storm water pollution prevention program requires the City to operate and maintain effective street cleaning operations to ensure trash does not get into the storm drain system (and ultimately on our beaches, and in our harbors and the ocean). While the benefit of the new four-day trash collection cycle is that there will be no trucks on City streets on Fridays, it did require some modification of the street sweeping days and times. The City’s goal is to minimize the impact to the residents and maximize parking areas adjacent to no-parking areas. Click to view daily street sweeping schedules below:
Residential collection service will not be performed on these holidays listed below (exceptions noted for Lakewood customers) and as a result, there will be a one-day residential delay in service.

Please set out waste and recycling containers for collection on your regularly scheduled service day on all other holidays, including Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday, Lincoln’s Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Washington’s Birthday, Cesar Chavez Day, and Veterans’ Day.

Holiday service is moved to the next day if performed on or following a holiday.
If your regular service day occurs before a holiday, your service day remains the same.
If regular service day is Thursday, it will be moved to Friday following the holiday.
If regular service day is Friday, it will be moved to Saturday following the holiday.
